Bought 4/1/06, April Fools's day. Hope that's not an omen. It's mounted on a pristine '89 Boston Whaler 13' SuperSport which has been run fresh water only in southern Maine. Motor has not been started in 3 years. Will be doing compression test, plugs, etc. Any hints, suggestions, advice would be appreciated.
This is my first boat, ever, at age 57!

Waterpump, carb kits, and possibly a fuel pump rebuild after the compression check is ok.

Thanks for the reply. Not only have I never owned a boat, I've never been in a forum. I've been reading a lot on iboats.com this week. A great resource for a newbie. Kind of scary when you read the posts about problems.

Thank You Chief Dave: I know it will be a fun runabout/ fishing boat, just feeling a little buyer's remorse, but I don't have big $$ invested (yet!)

Once you get on the water that remorse will turn into a big smile. :D

Once you plane that boat over for the first time you'll forget how much you paid for it and thank the Lord above for blessing you with enough funds to make it your very own.

Many thanks to all who have responded. Your wisdom and encouragement are greatly appreciated.
This weekend I met the local outboard guru in N.Waterboro,ME. He's going to help me along with some over-the shoulder advice. I should mention that my boat and camp are in Maine, but I have to earn a living in Mass. M-F. So, I only get to play on weekends. I'm envious of you guys down south who are in the water. We're shooting for May 1 up here, except for the daytripper bass boats, who are in.

Update: Suggestions above used with great results. New battery needed and replaced, prop replaced, cleaned carbs, water pump OK. Lubed and greased. Should be in the water this weekend.
Thanks for the help, especially KYHunter2 for the link advice to waking a sleeping outboard.

I wish I could see your face when you take her out for the first time. That would make a great MasterCard commercial. Good luck & enjoy
