I replaced the powerpack about a month ago. I have used the boat a few times since then and she starts and runs great.
went out yesterday and after motoring at wot to a good sitting spot I turned off the key. Boat keeps Running. Pull the Lanyard and motor keeps running. I turned the key on and choked it and it died. Started it up again and same thing. I finished off the day fine and just had to choke her off.
Got home and pulled everything and started testing. Ignition switch and killcircuit are fine...narrowed it down to the power pack has an open in the shut off circuit.
I don't have another $100 to throw at another powerpack, this was replaced already for a WOT intermittent issue so this is a new problem. There are no refunds or exchanges on electrical parts from the internet
The Black wire with a yellow stripe should kill the motor when grounded to a known good ground...it does not. The kill circuit from the box tests good. my grounds are good...
I am convinced it is the powerpack stop circuit....
However I was reading a post here where another poster had solved this issue by removing the powerpack ground wire and the motor would die.
So I brought out some test leads and rewired the ground wire to the pack with my test clips and started the motor....removed the clip (circuit) and the motor died. Replaced and it started right up again....
I was wondering if this would damage more or faster the powerpack to wire it in this fashion...I was actually thinking about running a relay to that ground so that when power was cut with the key then the motor would lose ground and die. Then I won't have to hack anything up, and can replace the power pack later after the season.
Thoughts? or danger will robinson?
I'm just trying to get through the rest of this season...and should I be worried the pack will next fail and give me a no start? or just luck of the draw with a bad connection on the yellow/black wire within the pack that I cannot see/fix
