I posted this question a little while back about disconnecting the shift linkage to changeout the impeller...well I just got around to pulling the cowling and looking in there to get an idea...

I was told to disconnect the hair pin at the shift linkage and it will undo, but I dont see how this will free up the shift rod to seperate the lower unit so I can change out the impeller.

from what I am looking at, disconnecting the shift linkage at the hair pin would disconnect it from the crank, but it takes a 90 degree angle to go under the powerhead and another 90 degree angle to go down the shift tube...

I dont see unding the bolts from the lower unit and then pulling all that down through the shift tube...

take mind this will be my first change on this motor, so maybe im not seeing something I should know

please advise here.

thanks

Pull the clip and push the linkage to the port side. That will release the shift rod from the clevis.

ok, I can reach the clip without pulling the bottom carb, do I have to pull the carb to get the rod to release down so I can pull the lower unit?

thanks

Pull the clip and push the linkage to the port side. No need to pull the carbs. It may be easier if you remove the throttle & shift cables.
