my rig did something briefly today. When I first launched and made a run out to my brushpile to anchor on, I then turned on my graph and it kept shutting off and saying voltage is too high. When I dropped the trolling motor and turned the engine off, it stopped. Then it didnt do it the rest of the day.

the batteries were both right off a long charge. my boat doesnt have a onboard charger on it.

What would cause this...my finder is a garmin, and the plug is a little squirrely, it will cut off and on sometimes and its hard to get just right.

any ideas

thanks

Joho, this one's easy. Your motor has an unregulated power supply - it will put out in the neighborhood of 18V when at speed. Once you turned the engine off, you were running only on the battery, at 12V. You actually made the problem worse by charging the batteries ahead of time - if they had needed charging they'd have created a load and dropped the voltage seen by your graph. That's why you had no trouble after you trolled a bit - after that you were charging the batteries when you ran the 70.

I have the exact same motor, and that's just the way it is. Some electronics are more sensitive than others - the solution is a power conditioner. I got a Humminbird off eBay for about $35.

the previous owner had it set up like this...can I run the tilt and trim off the starting battery?

Or should it be strictly starting?

I can fix that...and without an onboard charger, this motor will charge the battery?

I will switch everything over to the other battery.

thanks
