Hi all new here! I have a 1989 150 evinrude when I bought they disconnected the VRO so I mix the fuel myself. Now I need to replace the pump,1st it is leaking alittle and 2nd it seems the carbs are starving for fuel at high speed, then I slow down and it runs ok. My question is what fuel pump can I get to replace the old VRO. Please any helpwould be great Thanks.. Sorry the ID is E150txcem

Am original OMS pump for this engine is in the $ 350 range. Bombardier makes the same pump without the oil pump side for about $100 less. Lets you premix the oil in the fuel. Ask your dealer.

I just did the same thing on a 96 150 intruder...just got in the new pump part # 5007422, works like a champ. Kenny pointed out using 2 of the old style fuel pumps should work also. the link Japes gave is the cheapest I have seen the 5007422...it will be about $175 for 2 of the other pumps..so about $100 more gets you the better pump in my opinion.
I do not see why someone hasn't made an aftermarket pump for this application for around $150...they would sell like hotcakes. and should still make them plenty of money..I really resent it when manufacturers way way over price parts because of lack of competition.

Another problem with trying to use 2 pumps is that you will have to figure some way to mount the pumps and it will just be a big hassle to re-plumb. The VRO "no oil" was just about as easy as it gets.

Some Advice: if you are putting in new fuel lines, make sure you check which ones need to be pre-bent. I had to order 2 pre-bent lines. One coming from the pulse limiter to the VRO and one coming from the VRO fuel out to the carbs.

yes I agree Japes...you also would need to get a Tee for the pulse line so you can run one to each pump. If you go with the vro style pump it is easier for sure.

If I had a V6 motor then I would most likely go with a single pump option. Just need one on my V4 though.

Re: 1989 evinrude Fuel Question!

well thanks for the help, A good buddy of mine gave me his old pump I put it on it does work, and yes it is the VRO pump so I just blocked what needed to be block it runs great in the driveway and in a no-wake zone, but it still does the same thing at high RPM it starves for fuel, I replaced the priming bulb and line to the engine, and it still does it. So I came home and put new fuel line from the tank to the fuel filter and to the bulb line. and I'm hoping that will fix the problem will find out as soon as it stops raining.

The carb were rebuilt about a year ago. The boat ran perfect for about three months then all of a sudden the alarm went off and this is happening.

So remove the pump to carb hose and crank the motor with the fuel going in to a container. If you get consistent strong spurts your pump is O.K. most likely. If it starts strong and gets weaker as you go then there is a pump issue.
