Im working on a 1989 Evinrude 15hp. I need to order a new carb top, the one ive got is warped by the timing roller. It does appear that it has been changed at some point, it has the cover with the plastic post to hold the roller on it. I cant find that top piece untill 1992. So im assuming that these covers will interchange, the bottom gasket is the same. I noticed that the needle valve has been adjusted by "bubba" with his pliers at some point in the past and the splines are stripped off. My needle valve on my 83 metal carb turns really easy but this one is hard to turn. For 1989 it shows the needle as obsolete but in 1992 there show to be two needles and one is still available. Are these interchangable?

Ive checked out Leeroys page. Lots of good info. Not as much information on the newer style carbs but it appears that the carb tops do interchange. The only thing I couldnt tell was whether the needle valves would swap. I went ahead and cut a groove in the head of the one on it so that I could use a small flathead to adjust it.

I did like the idea of tapping in a 6th screw to prevent the top from warping. I even noticed a number 6 on the plastic piece where that screw should have been.

As far as being "bubba'd" The body of the carb looks to be fine. The only parts that need to be changes are parts that likely would need changed on a used on as well.

Well, there is a used needle on ebay. I can't be sure how good of shape its in from the pic though? Also, you can check the salvage yards listed on the sticky or your local dealer. They might even have some new old stock around?
