I just recently got this motor and was tinkering with it in the yard never had the boat on water. The engine would run great on the muffs while idling but the controls was like sticking. with motor off i would push the gas out of neutral and push it down till it clicked 1 time then it was stuck would not go any farther. would go all the way down in reverse. after looking it over i noticed the problem was the shaft going down that engages the gear was loose. i tightened then nut down and still nothing. i noticed that timing rod was hitting the rod that put the motor in and out of gear. i adjusted that nut so that it would clear and that fixed my problem so i could get full throttle in forward. Now when i crank the engine up its in gear. when i push the gas forward to the first click to engage the gear it kicks the motor in neutral and prop stops. if i adjust the shaft that engages the gear it will hit on the timing rod that adjusts the timing and i cant go full throttle fowards. what do i need to adjust to make it clear that? i have a manual on the motor ordered will be here tomorrow. i know ill have to adjust the shift rod back to where its in neutral but the timing rod hits it when its set there. reverse works fine everything clears. any ideas how to get that timing rod to clear the shift rod?
