It seems like the final 225 in-lb in the manual procedure is a bit lower then you would expect. What does the manual mean when it says 225 + 5 in-lb? why not just say 230 in-lb?

Are you sure it doesn't say something like 225 +/- 5 in-lbs? Because that means a range between 220 and 230. Sometimes a torque will specify +5 -0. This mean the torque must be at least the written value and no lower, but allowed to be up to 5 higher.

Is something like that at play here?

My manual says, 225 in-lbs no more no less. And I understand there is slight difference between different torque wrenches, but I believe 225 in-lbs is tight enough considering the standard torque value for a 5/16-18 bolt is 160 in-lbs or if you have the 3/8-16 bolt is 270 in-lbs. I'm not really sure how much torque you expect from a 5/16-18 bolt on a aluminum block. I hope it's not 225 FT-LBS!

+/- would make sence, but this just says + 5 if it was +/- i would have assumed thats what it meant and not even gave it a thought. mabye its a typo in my manual. I have an actual force dealer manual.
