1989 Force misses, at least I think it's a miss! This is quick and constant up to about 2000 rpm or so, tach jumps about 150 rpm each time this occurs.

I had a bad coil on 3 recently switched it out with a coil from a late 80's 85 HP Force and it started firing strong on all four cylinders. But there's this sort of miss or something that replacing the coil didn't completely fix.

When I pull each plug wire each cylinder drops everytime and the engine acts like it wants to stall, put the plug wire on and the cylinder picks back up but the engine still seems to have a miss or something. This makes me think a weak spark on a cylinder but pulling the plug wires don't seem to indicate it.

Checked all wire connections and grounds that I can think of. Changed spark plugs which were new BUXH to UL18V made no difference.Thought a CD box might have something to do with it but it seems to have good fire on all four!

Stator was replaced a while back.

Is it fuel? I'm not getting a lean pop. Seems rich if anything. I'm running best at 1 turn out on the carbs and am jetted at .101 top carb and .94 bottom carb. Tried a spare set of carbs made no difference.

Would to much oil in fuel cause this? Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Think I have carb troubles, noticed the top carb spewing over today!

I visually checked spark today nice and blue on all four.

Did compression check #1. 140 #2. 150 #3. 145 #4. 135

Hey Maxum sorry I couldn't help you with this one (we have the same motor though), have you had any luck getting it to run right?

I had an inlet needle not seating allowing the top carb to overflow a bit. I think that's most of the problem! Loading up the cylinders for that carb!
In the middle of going thru the carbs, fuel pump and the fuel recirculating system right now!
Having to wait a few days to get replacement gaskets, so it will probably be a couple weeks before I get things back together so I can try it out!

I had a similar issue with my boat. It ended up being the bulb in the gas line was colapsing. Easy way to check it, while you drive, have a buddy check it. $4 and about 5 minutes of my time and I was good to go.

Had the same problem two years ago, motor ran like crazy for a few minutes and then it would bogg down, ball would collapse, bring it to idle pump up the ball and off I'd go for a few more minutes, same thing would happen again and again! Drove me nuts!
Eventually found out I had a load of stuff looseing up in the tank where the boat had sat for over a dozen years. Had cleaned the tank before thought it was clear enough but it wasn't. Cleaned the tank good and problem solved.
