Hi guys, I have both tilt and trim seems the oil is full but I am wondering first where do I fill it up and second It will drop from top to bottom in about 5 minutes. there is no oil leaking what you guys think I should look into first. Seems like the seal on one of the cylinders is broke you can see in picture below. IMAG0426.jpgIMAG0427.jpgIMAG0428.jpgIMAG0429.jpg

if oil comes out then water is getting in and the rams should be rebuilt. Drifting down per your description is not the rams. When rams go bad the system falls in 1-2 seconds. Your valve body is getting old and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

Your engine is too big for the chinese valve body. You'll blow its guts out with the backpressure from prop. I think API or Mallory is still making them. You can spot the good ones from the picture. They do not have allen keyed end plugs. They used the early design with retaining clips. The chinese cloned the late design with allen keys. The chinese engineering is okay but the metal is soft and the tolerances are sloppy. If you can find a Mallory or API then it will do fine with 150HP.

My advice would be to live with the drift down until you just can't stand it and you are prepared to spend 2-4 hours time and $100-$300 in parts. Then search iboats for a new one or ebay for a rebuild. All the new ones on ebay are going to be chinese. You may also want to try ebasicpower. I think they carry mallory.

Is there a way of holding it into place once I lift it up somewhere to lock it or to put something there...I don't want it to drop when driving around at least. Its a new boat sorry so I am not familiar with it.

Re: 1989 Force 150 HP TILT and TRIM

i had a fancy metal bar to hold mine up. But i replaced them with a notched piece of 2x4 because i kept my boat on water & never used a trailer. The wood was cool because after letting the lift down i could just tug on the rope and pull the blocks into boat. If you are going to trailer then the metal bat is better. Never trailer on tilt cylinder without some kind of blocking. If you hit a pothole then the bypass valve might pop open and your skeg will drag the pavement. I've even seen people blow out orings from hitting potholes.

that is a rebuild of your existing. it is whatever you mail in, fixed and sent back. i don't think you will find the new api or mallory product on ebay. You'll have to search iboats and google to find that.

You need something like this to keep your motor tilted up while trailering.
It's kept on with a cotter pin/or circlip.
If you get one it fits a special way(I can send pics)For some reason I can't upload here anymore!!!
Some can be found on e-bay.
The e-bay add(for repair) is from the poster,RRitt he-rebuilds them.I hear he's good at it.
I've sent a couple of people his way and they didn't complain!!
