This lower unit is new to me so I wanted to change all the seals. Took bearing housing off tonight and the bearing stayed on the shaft. I had to tap the housing all the way off with a brass punch. When I picked the unit up, I noticed no end play on the prop shaft. All the gears look really good. Question 1 Does anyone see a problem with just changing the seal and slap it back together? Question 2 Are the bearings a press fit?

Not a press fit on the shaft.
Maybe pressed in the carrier housing?
The bearings can be pushed off.
A big crescent wrench or big wrench to fit over the prop shaft.
Tap with a hammer.

Clean the mating surfaces and reinstall in the carrier housing.
Make sure the sealer gets on the mating surfaces.

Pay attention to the seal's position, the spring in the seal, on the inside or outside?
Should be on the outside towards the water prop.
