Re: 1989 force 85hp ignition problems

Are they a Mercury dealer?
If so, why are they using after market parts.
All those parts are available from Mercury.

If they don't know what they are doing, or how to install the parts they are pushing, you should get the boat back without paying for those parts.
But that will never happen.

Since they replaced the entire ignition system and it doesn't work, they either wired it wrong, damaged the parts during install, or got faulty parts from their supplier. All aftermarket parts should have come with a diagram that identifies the terminals. If all they can do is match up the same colored wires, they will be lost on most every repair.

There are troubleshooting guidelines in every manual to isolate the problem.

Pick up your boat, get it the heck away from them, and find someone that can be trusted. These guys have crossed that line by 100 feet.
