Hello, my 1989 Force 85HP has this reverse lever lock and it was only attached on the side closest to the boat. I am assuming there should be a bolt in the side furthest from the boat in the hole just above the 2x4 shown in this photo. Does anyone know the part number or where I might get what is missing here? Or can I get a regular stainless bolt and put it in there and if so do you know the thread size?

That is not the reverse lever lock. It is the pivot tilt stop partnumber F85350-1.
Looks like N/A but try Franz Marine he will have it if available.
It is a bolt with a wide head but very short head.
You can use a stainless bolt but you have to grind the head cause it is just about 1/16 high.

OK so I think maybe I have a different problem then. I actually bought that bolt off ebay before and it is exactly the same size as the one which is closer to the boat. The problem is that the F85350-1 seems to just slide into the hole on the bracket as thought the hole was drilled out or something. Should the hole furthest from the boat be threaded all the way to the outside? I stuck a wire in there and I can feel some grooves toward the back but the bolt I had bought doesn't actually reach those...

Maybe someone drilled out the hole? Do I need to have this on the motor bracket? I am thinking this keeps the motor from flipping up in reverse right?

No it has nothing to do with the reverse and locking the engine from flipping up when reverse.
It is the tilt stop pivot. You lock the engine in top tilt position with this.
It is only mounted at manual tilted engines.
If you have T&T this is not mounted as the T&T keeps the engine tilted.

I think the threads in the hole are striped. You have to put a helicoil thread in our drill the hole up to next size and make new threads. Then you have to make your own tilt stop pivot screw.

The bracket in the pic is for keeping the motor in the up position.

Reverse lock is a completely different setup.
Find a 87/88 85hp and look up the parts diagrams for the transom clamps and mid section.
That should have the lock setup.

Pics without the wood will help.

I managed to get a tap in there just fine and then when I started backing out it snapped off clean. It's a Mac tap too! I might be able to get it out if I weld a nut on there but drilling is going to be pretty tough.

Right now I am using a 2x4 wedged in there to keep it up. I picked up some 1/2 in rod and I am going to try to come up with something else. My other 50HP had a loop that was on the bottom that just flipped up to hold the motor up. this motor seems to be missing it.
