1989 force waterpump

I was just wandering when i start my engine it does not automatically start pumping, after approximately a minute it will start spraying out the exhaust ports down on the leg is this normal? and also when running at high rpms should there be a steady stream? any help is greatly appreciated.

Overboard mine picks up pretty quick, kind of weak at first but as the engine speeds up I get a full spray. On a hose with a new water pump and impella takes about that long it seems.

It wont start pumping right away and it will stay a spray . You should put a tell tail on it then you would know without question if the thing was pumping.
