1989 FourWinns Vista 315 Common Problems????

Hey forum, long time no speak.
Am looking at project 2014 right now and have my eyes on a Four Winns Vista 315. Anyone have any insight into some common problems or repairs on this type of boat? Just love to hear some replys from former owners. Every boat has its snafus, and I have never had a Four Winns before. I am told the engine needs a ring gear, and priced it our already at the local service yard. It has twin 5.7 Cobras and OMC drives.
Looks to be a solid boat, but I wont be able to sea trial it now till spring as he wrapped it.

They were decent boats in their day, it depends on how it was kept and maintained all those years. The OMC/Cobra parts of the boat is usually something only die hard resto people would want to tackle. Parts are getting harder to find, and I'm not sure if even Hall's would work on it.

I have seen this boat "limping" around on Muskegon Lake over the last few years. I know of an 89' Celebrity that is for sale in town, but would not be quite as inexpensive as this 315. But then again, it has Mercruiser power, which is easier to get parts for.

Thats the one. I agree on the Cobra issues, but Northshore told me they can still get parts pretty easily from the East Coast. Probably wont touch this one, as I'm sure if it was an easy fix, it would have been done long ago. He just paid $700 to shrink wrap it, so why wouldn't he pay $750 to fix the problem? Lots of great project boats out there in W MI, so I'll moving along to the next floating cash incinerator.
