i have a 175 johnson outboard model#J175txceb sr#r08242771 1989. Ihave no fire at the plugs. I have a repair manual and checked everything. in the book it shows that the stator sould put out at leese 200 or more volts mine puts out about 130 the books states to change the stator. at the powerpack i have no or very little volts the book states that it sould have 175 volts. my question is sould i change the stator or powerpack or both of them. thank you

If stator is not within specs, change it. No need to replace pack if its ok. Pack wont read right if stator isnt putting out.

The output of the stator is a fuction of several things including the speed of the flywheel. Be careful not to jump to conclusions yet. My experience with these devices (stators) are that they either work or don't. I would be suscipious of the trigger or the module if you are getting 130V at cranking speed. The stator is an ac generator and provides a peak pulse that is rectified to DC and stored in a capacitor in the module. 1.41 X 130 =185 or pretty close to what your book says. Sounds like a module to me. Is there spark on any of the cyl?
