Hey, this if the first time ive posted on the forum and I thought id try and get my Jetski to run. Well i have a 89 Kawasaki Ts 650 with a higher compression head and it has NO spark. The first thing i thought it was was the kill switch so i took that apart and check the resistance with the volt meter and it seemed functional. The next thing i did was i bught a used CDI off ebay for $32 including shipping. and I dropped it in after rebuilding the starter that was seized solid. So now i had a working starter and a Good CDI? I tryed it and still NO spark. IM affraid to ask but could it be the lower end pick up / lower end windings? If it is put it to me easy i dont want to hear it because it sounds like alot of work :'( If any one has any other ideas i can try id love to hear them!

Thanks

Alan

buy a climer repair manual, and follow the test procedures for the electrical components, even the coils have a primary and secondary test and that may be the problem as kawasaki has a bad rep on ignition coils.

Could be the stator. You can test it if you know what you are doing or you can even pull it out and send it in and have it tested. I had Robert at jetskimechanic.com repair one for me once and it worked great. Don't recall what he charged, but it was fair.

The other thing is test the volt regulator out as well. Other than that the only other thing it might be is if your plug wires have pulled loose from the plug boots. That is common on these, but doubtful if you changed CDI's and still have the issue.

Don't be afraid of the stator, it isn't hard to pull out. A little time consuming, but that's it. The hardest part is pulling the flywheel, which once that front cover is off, you might be able to have a shop do for $15 or $20 if you don't have a tool. I believe a gear puller from an auto parts store is all you need.

One thing to watch out for is the torque on the front cover bolts. I never use a torque wrench on mine, I just get them good and snug, but not overtly tight and haven't had any issues in a long time. I did have one 650 10 years ago that was plagued with problems in that area. Don't know if the cover had been off too many times or what, but it kept stripping the threads.

While you are in that area, double check the bendix gear and make sure it's spinning freely. Clean it up well if it catches at all, because they tend to be troublesome as well. Then when you go to put the cover back on use grease on the "O" ring and just keep running the grease all around the "O" ring while it's in the channel with your finger. It's going to look too big, but after several runs around it'll go in place.

Oh, yeah, I'm not certain what a TS looks like, I ride standups, but I can pull my stator without pulling the engine. If you can do it as well, it'll save a lot of work!
