I know the l-drives aren't great motors so if you could I don't want to hear about that, just whats going on would be great. I can hear the motor for the trim button, but nothing is happening. I have access to a machine shop so if there are some parts that need machining I should be alright. Any ideas? Its my first boat and have everything else working great. Thanks y'all, David

Did you do all the basic? Fluid level, leaks, etc.

I had a problem where the the trim cylinder was working fine, but it had pivoted up on the mounting pin and wasn't hitting the block on the motor bracket.

I don't know anything about outboards but I'll go through and check everything. I didn't notice any leaks or anything. I'll check the pin thing you are talking about. Thanks

Went through it and found a little leak and the resevoir was low on fluid. Its a white fluid though and I'm not sure exactly what that is. Any help?

What Horsepower is the motor?

I can get you started with some of the manuals I have posted for my 87. The trim setup for a 125LD is a lot differnt, but it at least will give you an idea of what your looking for.

go to http://www.reinsmith.net/boating.aspx and have a look at the "Bayliner Capri/Trophy Owners Manual (1987)" and the "Force 85 and 125 HP Outboard Owners Manual" for some information on the trim unit

If not here is the link for the Clymer manual for your engine
Clymer Manual

iBoats carries seloc manuals, i have both and I think the clymer manual is better (my humble opinion, of course)

Let me know if you need more. You can always private message me as well if you like.

What is the milky substance? It appears it is a little low and the auto parts store didn't seem to know what it was. Thanks

I'm not sure which hp rating it is, no idea how to check it either. There is a plastic resvoir w/ a two wire pump and two steel lines running into the transom.

where are you getting the milky from? in the fill reservoir?

milky means it has water in it.

Sounds like you need to drain and replace.

you should use trim unit oil, but 10w40 will work in a pinch.

One of the steel lines was a little loose so I just tightened it up and it works, just not great. I'm not in a pinch so I'll just see about getting the proper fluid, if they have it in stock. I guess the motor is an 85 hp so thats good to know. Thanks for all the help.
