The choke solenoid on my '89 Mariner 25hp # 0C154840 is shot. I'd like to start this motor in a tank to see if it is runnable at all before spending $80 for that part. The motor also has an adjustable manual choke.
The solenoid opens or closes a very small port to air on top of the carburetor mixing chamber by pushing or withdrawing a rubber plug. My question is, in the normal (un-choked) running position, is that port closed or open?
I can either block it, or leave it open and use the manual choke to test start, I just want to know which.
Thanks for your help.
