Hello all, I am new to this forum and new to boating. I bought a 1989 Maxum, 17 foot open bow. I have a question about the side vents (near the rear).

The tubing from the vent seems to be in tact, running from the vent down to the bilge and I beleive the blower.

But the tubing from the vent on the right side appears to not be in tact and somewhat missing....where should the tubing from the right side vent go to? and what is its purpose?

Thanks

Re: 1989 Maxum side vents

Its purpose is to connect the vent fan to the bottom fo the bilge to the atmosphere out side the engine compartment. this fan SUCKS from the bottom of the bilge and removes the fuel vapors from the compartment. the duct at the bottom of the bilge should be bellow the starter.

you should run this fan 3-4 minutes before starting the engine if you do not and there is a build up of fuel vapors you run the risk of going BOOM and that would not be good

please explain "intact and somewhat missing" is it missing or is it intact?????

One hose is hooked to the fan and the other hose just dumps fresh air into engine bay as you scoot across the water. That is how my Sea Swirl 1986 boat is anyway.

The hose on the left side is connected and runs to the bilge blower. It is the vet on the right side that doesnt have a hose hooked to it...it appears it once did, but doesn't look like it really goes to anything.

Should there be a hose from the fresh air vent that runs anywhere? It appears there once was, but doesn't look like it was very long or went very deep into the compartment.
