I am looking into buying a 1989 bayliner bowrider. It has a 1989 OMC Cobra engine in it. I would appreciate any info there is to offer on the durability of this boat and engine. I heard the engine run and it sounded smooth. The only problem was on the throttle shifter, the button under the handle to shift between foward/reverse/neutral was broken and it sounded like the lower unit was having a little trouble and if left in reverse too long the boat would idle rough and stall. I appreciate your time.
Thanks,
steve

Howdy Pretender.

Bayliners have a terrible reputation. I am sure that there are some that are fine, but too many rot away under that beautiful skin.

I would look for a boat with a quality rep. :)

well, if that button is broke you're looking at replacing the shift lever at the helm. not cheap. how did u get it to shift with that button broke? the shift cable could be out of adj., could be shift interrupter switch, bad cable. etc. i own a cobra & trust me those cables can be a p.i.a. to adjust. what size engine? i would look this boat over carefully before going ahead. what is the asking price? what size is the boat? what condition is the hull in?

the price of the boat is $5000 and it has a 1989 OMC 5.8L cobra engine. Thanks for the advice, I think the shifter cable might be out of adj as well.
