Hey everyone! I’ve been learning a lot over the past few weeks owning my first boat. Still been a blast even though I’ve run into a ton of problems. I just enjoy to fix something that’s not working! But anyway I purchased the boat with it not running. When I got it home I hooked water up and tried to fire it off and I got it to spit and start like two times but wouldn’t stay running. It didn’t have spark on 4 of the 6 cylinders so I just decided to replace all coil packs, plugs and ignition leads. I also re built the fuel pump! So I went to fire it for the first time in a few weeks and still have the exact same problem. Only 2 of the 6 cylinders had spark. So my next question is, what would be the next thing to replace or check. Could the stator be bad or the trigger assembly!? I’m not to sure as to what to change next. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks
dan!

It just "grinds my gears" when I read about coil replacements...I could put all the bad Merc coils I have replaced in 40+ years in a gallon bucket. Go to boatinfono ...put a . in front of no and get you a manual and test the ignition.

A Merc V6 motor would normally have 3 triggers, 2 switchboxes and six coils, all fed from a single stator. So if you have spark on2 cylinders, it may be a trigger. Spark on 3 cylinders may be a switchbox or stator.

Faztbullet I change all of the coils because 4 out of 6 had terrible corrosion on them. Was worth it to just refresh and start with new to eliminate problems.
