One owner boat...me. I know what I have.
Engine has always started, garge kept boat. I have done impeller at least 5-6 times, plugs, wires, oil many times.

Did I ever do the distributor or rotor? No...Why I am a pre maintenance freak. No clue why I did not it always started right up.
23 years I used those 2 parts.

Boat would not start. Cranked over but no fire. Checked fuel first. Water seperator, ok. Any gas in carb... yes, worked throttle and gas squirted in carb, must be spark.

First thing I checked was distr. cap. Used pb blaster on brass screws. three came out. 4th worked back and forth, it sheared off. Cap off, green on contacts, needs replaced.
Guess what, no points, I have a sensor....cool. Thunderbolt I guess.
Drilled out brass screw with 1/8 in bit. Then went one size bigger. Other screws showed metric when I ran my tap through them, so I re tapped, cleaned out threads of broken brass screw. A little oil and new cap ready to be reinstalled.

Rotor button, been on there 23 years. Heated it up, no would not come off. Pulled tugged, no. Took a hacksaw carefully sliced pieces off to pry apart with screwdriver. Shaft was rusted.
Cleaned up with sandpaper and oiled it.
Took sensor out.

New sensor had to be wired in some with extra connectors, no big deal. Heat shrunk all connections and then electric tape.
New rotor button, 2 drops of red locktight in shaft groove.
Distrb. cap back on.
Coil 23 years old, replaced that too while I was working on it
New wires
All quicksilver, mercruiser parts. About $240 for the whole lot.

Put water to lower unit, turned key and it fired up like it was brand new. Touch the key it starts.

Rotor button was the hardest part. Just had to be carefull with the drilling out the broken brass screw.

This is for anyone doing this job.
