Hello everyone,

It is almost boating season again it is getting warmer and warmer outside. Anyway, I pulled my boat outside of the garage and cranked her over. She ran kind of crappy at first but ran fine after she warmed up a bit. I haven't cranked her over since October 2005. Is this normal for her to run rough a little at startup and she runs fine after warmup. I also tested the tachometer I installed a few days ago and she registers just fine and the motor idled at 800 rpm's with the warmup leverfully down in the stowed position. Is this right on the mufffs. I own a 1989 Evinrude 88 horsepower SPL V-4. Thanks for all of your help.

If you winterized the engine, the roughness is the fogging oil burning off and that should clear out after a few minutes of running. Idle speed will be a tad higher on muffs that it is in the water since there is no exhaust back pressure. You are good to go!

i think 800 rpms on mufs is to low.
it should be around 750 in gear in the water.
if its 800 on muffs i think it will stall *** soon it gets backpressure.

may be your tach is off.
