I recently acquired a 1989 230 Coastal with twin 110 Johnson VRO's. I love the lines of this boat. The boat was mostly used for fishing and I will continue this legacy. I need information on where to purchace replacment parts for the boat (dash, owners manual, hatches.....). I went to the Wellcraft site and it was not much help, emailed customer service and was refered to the same site. Any info would be appreciated. Also Any experiance with this boat would be great.

Thanks

Re: 1989 Wellcraft 230 Coastal

The Wellcraft factory in Sarasota, Florida, closed several months ago. One of the 2 service reps from the factory is working in the service department at Maximo Marine in St. Petersburg, where I live. Stopped by last week to ask him where I can get information on replacing parts for my 2002 24WA. Essentially, the answer is that I am on my own, anything needed must be fabricated or purchased aftermarket, as Wellcraft only supplied parts for boats 5 years old or newer.

I have been trying to find a replacement for the black smoked plexiglas cabin door and hatch...and the hinges that are broken. I am having no success, and getting frustrated. Good luck with your search for ANY parts for these older boats. Some of the hardware is generic, but finding the suppliers for specialized parts is growing tedious. This is probably a common problem with all mass produced boat manufacturers.

Re: 1989 Wellcraft 230 Coastal

A number of years ago the Plexiglas windscreen on my 15 ft Boston Whaler needed to be replaced, and the dealer wanted way too much money for it. Fortunately for me, I found a place that took my old windscreen and used it to make a pattern on a new tinted Plexiglas sheet, they heated and bent it to shape, and all I had to do was to drill the holes for the bolts that attached it for a lot less than the dealer.

My father has the same boat in an '86, and we ran into an issue with one of the cockpit lights. The plastic portion of the socket was shot and I thought that we were going to have to replace the entire light, but luckily he was able to buy a replacement socket in an automotive store for a lot less and it was identical.

You may have to get creative and take a nice piece of wood and redo the dash, as the plastic just doesn't last in the sun.
