I have the boat a couple years but i have noticed lately it puts out around 16 volts on the meter.. i read somewhere that it puts out that much.... Seem like a lot is that ok. I mean it a 25 year old boat and if it done that when new i guess it ok to now. I guess i just put new battery in it this year and noticed it or do i need to get it checked out.

It a unregulated it just a a rectifier on it and it new . i was told if it was bad it wouldn't be charging at all. I noticed it ok on short runs but if i run a long ways i notice it starts to go on up there

That engine should have a regulated output which limits it to 14.5v. 16 is usually the unregulated value and is OK on small engines with low capacity charging circuits. But on your engine which may put out as many as 40 amperes, it may burn up your battery especially if you make long runs with little power usage....aka long runs to do a lot of charging and little power meaning you don't consume it nearly as fast as it gets pumped into the battery. I think it's time for a new regulator module. But a person familiar with that engine will surely chime in and set the record straight.
