I have a 1989 Yamaha 175 outboard, and the cowl is showing raw fiberglass across the top. I ASSUME that is it severe sun damage to the gel coat.
What would be the best way to repair ithe. I was thinking of sanding off the loose fibers, then applying multiple coats of poly. Maybe thickend it a little so it would not be too drippy. Then sand smooth, and probably paint the whole cover. Doubt I'll do new gel coat because I have never done that, but I may try as an experiment.
What to the experts think?
