I have a 1990 115 hp thats on a 1990 Fisher. This last summer I got an alarm from the shifter console, beep beep beep. I reseached and did some testing. The motor was getting oil. I replaced the alarm module and the sensor that bolts to the oil tank. I still get the beep. I drained the tank and didnt see any magnet that could of came loose. My second problem is I lost reverse. I just grinds when I try to put it in. I drained the LU and it looked good, no shavings and I dont believe my linkage is the problem. Any clues?

Unplug one of the blue wires to the oil level sensor, if the beeping stops then there IS a problem with the float magnet and you will have to replace the tank.

As for your reverse problem, Unplug the spark plug wires to ensure the motor cannot fire.

Shift the control lever into reverse, disconnect the shift cable at the motor, now see if you can manually slide the linkage a bit farther into reverse.

Step on the blade of the prop using your body weight to turn the motor over, verifying that the gearbox is locking into reverse.

If it now locks into reverse you may have a stretched shift cable needing replacement.

I unplugged the blue wire and it did indeed stop the beep so I know I need a new tank.
As for the reverse problem I went and pulled the plug wires and put it in reverse, before unconnecting the linkage I checked it like you said by standing on it and its in gear. I dont get it. Maybe it wasnt going all the way in last fall when I first encountered this problem. I will take it out to the lake soon to make sure its ok though.

My reverse still doesnt work. I undid it at the linkage and it seemed to go in manually good. Hooked it back up and ran it and it worked but not when I got it on the lake.Im thinking its the reverse clutchs. Are these hard to fix? Im not to bad mechanically so if its not crazy then Id like to fix it myself.
