1990 225 is running too well! But seriously, anyone seen something like this?

This is my first season with a 1990 225ETLD. Worked out a few little bugs and it is running like a charm. It is mounted on a bass boat with the motor mounted with the propshaft 3" below pad, same as my last motor. There is one thing it does that I have never seen before. While cruising, if I turn the steering wheel, even slightly, the motor speeds up 200 RPM. I thought the prop was ventilating and so I tried lowering it on jackplate and trimming in. It still does it. I am talking even in gentle turns. I can live with it, maybe even learn to like it, (I am used to seeing motors slowing down under the load of turning) but it is very strange. Can anybody think of why it would do something like this? These motors have electronic timing so it not likely that. Anybody ever seen something like this?

Is the prop slipping?

my pontoon used to do that too, turns out the previous owner had installed control cables that were just slightly too short. Whenever I turned the motor it was stretching the cables taught and actually pulling the throttle open just enough to increase the RPM slightly.

That is very interesting. I know they are not too short but something 'like' that could be a possiblity. I will look into that. Thx. Any other possibilities?

I am still seeing this peculiar issue with this motor. (225 ETLD) The cables are not moving in turns. Not only that, I realize the motor will often speed up even if I don't turn. It happens between 3000 and 3500 RPM only. I do not believe it is a fuel problem as the motor runs perfectly at all other RPM's. Does not stumble or surge. But while cruising in this range it will often just speed up 200-300 RPM without touching the throttle. These motors have the timing controlled 100% by the TPS. Because it does feel like the timing may be advancing I have checked the TPS several times with both anologue and digital equipment and cannot seem to find a flat spot. It is rather difficult to test the timing while cruising but I guess I could try. Any others ideas?
