My landlord decided I must be bored and needed a project. He gave me a 30hp 1990 Evinrude he came across. Which I am in need of an outboard of this size. It's obvious this engine hasn't run in many years. rats have chewed up most the wiring and likely all seals are dry rotted. I haven't yet pulled the heads to check the cylinders. As a life long Mercury man I have never owned an Evinrude. my question here is if the cylinders are good would it be worth my time effort and parts to even try to get this engine going ?and any idiosyncrasy's I should I look for? Thanks for your response

Ahoy, Cajunmike.

:welcome:

Enjoying boating with a sweet running outboard and enjoying bringing a pile of junk back to the life of a sweet running outboard are not the same thing, though many of us enjoy both.

If you really enjoy the work, frustration and sometimes cost of resurrecting an outboard, get yourself an OEM Service Manual Original outboard product and service manuals for Johnson, Evinrude, Gale, and OMC and have fun. Do not try to compare the cost of doing it to the market value when done. You get your value out of the satisfaction, not the selling price.
