My motor has a dead tilt assist cylinder. From what I have read, it cannot be serviced. It does not assist. It require too much force to disengage it so that the motor can be tilted. As received, the plastic ball clip for the cable was broken. I fabbed one from SS sheet. Then I found the cable mount was cracking from the force. I fabed one from aluminum and SS. It takes somm much force, the lever is going to break next. I'm sure there is somthing wrong with that feature as well. I see power trim assemblies on Ebay for $100-$250. Which ones with fit this engine? Which years? Will the 3 cyn ones fit, or does it need to come from a 2 cyl Johson. If I have to pay that kind of money to fix it, I might as well go for the power assist. Unless someone has an inexpensive solution.

Depending on what kind of set up you have CMC Cook manufacturing co. makes a great product, I believe the PT-35 is only rated for up to 35 horse, but I'd put money that it would be fine for a 40hp. Look on e-bay for a used one, new they are around 550.
