I got a power tilt/trim unit on my parts motor which is a 1990 40hp Johnson. The information label on the motor has been painted over, so I don't know the exact model number. I am swapping the tilt/trim unit to my 89 Tracker, but it appears that the trim sending assembly is not functional. It is my understanding that I am supposed to get a reading of 10-88 ohms depending upon the position of the lever arm. However, when I test it with my meter, I get nothing but an open circuit reading.
I'd like to replace it, but I can't find the sending unit in the parts diagrams online at various places including here. There is a diagram for the power tilt/trim unit electrical harness, but it doesn't include the sending unit. I was able to find a number molded into the sending unit body, but it doesn't correlate to any part numbers through any of the searches I've done.
The number on the body is 334817. After many searches and blind hunting, I think that the part number of the sending unit is 0585174, however the images of that unit are horrible, and I can't confirm it's the right part.
Can anyone confirm a part number or direct me to another motor that may use the same part?
