I have a 1990 Evinrude 70HP with a trashed stator.

The original part is listed as 6-amp. Several people show replacement parts that are 9-amp.

The original part is OMC 583779. I see a replacement from CDI listed as 173-4766.

I don't see a problem except that I don't know what the rectifier is rated for. I can't see any other concerns; seems that it will just charge the battery a little faster, and support more accessories while still charging the battery.

Has anyone done this upgrade?

Thanks for any help with this!

I would check the part numbrs on the 90 of 115HP rectifiers and see if they are the same one. Of course, you could just run yours and see if it stands up but if it is the same as the 115 you should be OK.

I will have a look at those parts.

The part arrives tomorrow, so I'll look tonight at the specs.

Are you saying that the 90 and 115 HP motors use a 9-amp stator?

Thanks for your help with this!

Got the stator installed.

It shows about 28 volts AC at the rectifier input - that ought to be enough.

The battery voltage was starting to come up as I ran the motor - looks like it is charging fine!

Thanks for the comment!
