My father inlaws outboard is not pumping water through the tell tell outlet.
We took a look at the thermostat hose and it was bone dry, despite the fact that initially the water outlet had a decent stream, indicating proper operation. Once we put the outboard under load, the water coming out of the tell tell outlet stopped. We turned around and took a look at the thermostat hose, which was bone dry. Hard to reach the impeller from the cockpit.
Question 1.
How is it posible that the thermostat hose is dry, when there was a decent stream of water coming out of the water outlet?
Question 2.
Is it likely an obstruction, or is the impeller shot?
Any insight would be appreciated. Since he bought the boat has has been having problems with this darn water outlet. The impellker was last changed in 2007, but has has put less than 10 hours of operation on the engine since then.
