how long did you let i run for? i had one sit for three years and it was doing the same thing. once it got warmed up though, it would idle beautifully. hope this helps.

a carb rebuild might be needed. but i would try this first. does the motor run if you were to keep the electric choke pushed in? it should...and if it does and you can keep it running long enough by modulating the choke until it warms up, you may notice that it will warm up and level out and eventually run on its own. that's what mine did and it runs great now. just a thought...

Thanks, for the info...it will run as long as I keep choking it, and then for a second or two after I release the choke..I was told to try a product "SEAFOAM" to clear out the Carbs....I'm not much of a mechanic, when I sent my boat down with a family member a few years ago it was like brand new, ....live and learn I guess....$$$$$

Rebuild the carbs. It's gonna make hellova difference for your engine. I had iddle and rough running issues, rebuild the carbs and problem gone. I'm a newbie and never rebuilt a carb before, it is pretty streight forward, get the manual, it took me close to 3 hours do both carbs including soaking time. Just make sure to tight things up back to torque specs to avoid things falling apart when running (happened to me!)
Fresh spark plugs wouldn't hurt either.

I have the exact same engine..............I love it. I hope you get yours working as well as mine is running now.

and I really recomend you get those carbs cleaned..............if not there is a potential for internal damage in your motor.

ok, it's this simple. seafoam is not going to clean a gummed up carb, which you have, living in Fl. it takes very little time for gas in carb to evaporate, and leave the scum. the only solution to your problem, is to disassemble, soak all metal parts, clean all plastic parts, remove jets, and clean orifices. then reassemble with a rebuild kit. don't blame the family, it's from lack of use. also change the impeller, before you burn the motor up, from running hot. after you get everything clean and running, seafoam is recommended to keep it that way.
