Re: 1990 bayliner L-drive trim 90 hp
There are supposed to be either 2 solenoids(L-drive usually had solenoids i think???) or 2 relays, in either case one controls up(blue wire=sky=up) the other down(green wire=grass=down) with negatives(black) pigtailed together and properly bussed or grounded back to negative and each powered(usually red) from the source(i.e. fuse panel or battery) with at the very least a 20A reset-able or self resetting breaker for circuit protection then the respective blue and green will be placed on the corresponding side of (1) of the normally open post of the solenoids/relays(i.e. blue on one SLD/RLY green on the other one) , power is applied to only one at a time when you use the trim switch which then causes the normaly open internal SLD/RLY switch to close onto the contactor supplying power to the trim pump, maybe one is bad or corroded or perhaps the switch has failed. Check all wiring for corrosion loose, broken or damaged connectors etc.I will try and find you a copy of the wiring schematic I downloaded here in the mercury forum ... List your model#,Year and serial# and take pics of complete wiring to and from trim motor and control for better assistance... It looks as if that set of wires or whip was possibly intended for ease of wiring a remote switch at a later date so is the switch on the control plate not yet tied in???... I've come to this conclusion because you state that the trim works one direction but not both and that set of wires appears to include the 3 necessary for full control of T/T unit (with the exception of one appearing to be black) test for power and continuity... and if I've explained this in error someone will come along and correct my misinformation...
