A couple of questions here...

When I turn the key on it makes a chirping sound. It has done that since I owned the boat. The other day I was running down river and I am guessing it was an alarm. It was coming from the control box. It made the same sound, just constant ear pericing chime. I shut the boat down and it stoped. I fired it back up and it hasn't done it since.

Also there is a little knob on the control box that you can turn right to left. Under the key switch. what is that?

Last question when I raise the big motor while trolling, it will leak halfway down in about 5 to 10 mins. I have checked the fluid and it seems to be fine.. any guesses??
Thanks a bunch,
Channing

there are several different noises the box makes for alarms. the chirp you hear initially is a check that it is working. you may have picked up trash, and when you stop the engine, it fell off. as far as the tilt, you have an o ring going bad, when ever you have an alarm stop immediately.

Yeah that was the first time I'd heard that alarm. Scared the hell out of me..lol

What about the knob under the key switch that turns.. do you know I'm refering to?

Also Do you mean the O-ring in the side where you put the Hydro-fluid in? Or a different one?
Thanks,
CW

A steady alarm can be overheat or fuel restriction. If it didn't come back, it could have been a temporary condition of either - like tashasdaddy said, it could have been some trash that was picked up (in the cooling water intake) that caused a temporary overheat and then was released when you stopped the motor. Or it could have been a temporary fuel restriction (which I've had before when I forgot to open the fuel valve I have in my fuel line). Another source of temporary fuel restriction is something blocking the tank pickup which dropped off when the engine shut down. You might want to check that, it should be simple. Maybe next time that fuel tank is empty, pull out the fuel pick up and inspect it - also see if you can see any obvious junk (metal flakes, leaves, etc.) in the tank that could cause something like that.

What about the knob under the key switch that turns.. do you know I'm refering to?

That adjusts the tension on the control arm so it stays put. Too tight and it's hard to move the arm. Too loose and it moves when you take your hand off it.

Also Do you mean the O-ring in the side where you put the Hydro-fluid in? Or a different one?

Can't help you on that one...

i mean an o ring in the hydrolic cylinder, you are probably going to have to rebuild the cylinder. never done it. and most people i know let the pros do it. there's not much literature on it.
