Hey guys my first post here, i have a 1990 stratos fish and ski 20' with a 1990 Evinrude 175 XP. So far the motor has ran well, and from what i hear they seem to be dependable motors. However, i have a small oil leak, possibly gas and oil but seems like the thickness of oil in which a small line or two runs down the side of the motor and stops around the lip above the lower unit or above this point, never leaks near enough to drip off the motor, so is this anything to worry about? Also when i first start it up, it takes about 6-8 seconds for water to shoot out the peep hole, and at idle and lower speeds my water pressure isnt in between the 2 arrows on my gauge, just wondering if it was supposed to run the same at all speeds/rpm because at or above 3500 or so rpm's and above my pressure is in between the 2 arrows on my gauge. I had an evinrude 90 previously for about 4 years, and it was a good little motor, w/out the water guage and thought water shot out instantly on it, maybe i was wrong.

The water pressure should be around 4 lbs or more at idle and as much as 20 at full speed. If you guage does not have actual lb. markers, it is hard to tell what you have. If the engine is new to you, a new water pump impeller is cheap insurance. Hard to tell what the hose issue is from your description. A pic. would help. That engine does have small recirculation hoses which help idling characteristics. The hoses need to be connected and the valves need to be operational.
