1990 force 90 choke dont work

I have a 1990 force outboard wene it is cold I hit the choke button and try to start it. And it will not start. So I have to squirt some gas in the carbs to get it to start. Wene It is running, I can hit the choke button and It wants to die. So the choke works wene it is running but not wene it is cold why. Can someone please help me. Oh It is not the compression I checked 120,120,115 so it is good can someone please help me?

First, what's your entire starting procedure? Do you use the "warm-up" throttle"? On my 120hp, it goes like this; when cold, push warm-up throttle all the way forward and then bring it back to about 1/2 way. Push in on the choke while turning the key. As soon as it hiccups (or fires), take the choke out of the equation. Is your fuel bulb staying firm after you first pump the gas up?

If it only works when the motors warm then the choke needs to be cleaned.
Use a spray cleaner in the choke.
Use your hand and activate it by pushing up and down and spraying on the slide.
Then use the key and continue to activate and spray.
Then a bit of white lithium spray grease.
This will eventually clog up again so clean it every year or so.

Try the above procedures and you'll be surprised how effective it is for starting. Usually, most people think that when you engaged the choke the engine will actually start and run. The truth is, the chance of starting with the choke engaged is very little. The better chance of an engine starting is after it hiccups with the choke engaged, then re-start again without the choke.

Recently, I had problems with my choke not staying engaged when I turn the key from ignition to start position. I also noticed the problem seems to go away when the battery is newly charged. I fixed by problem by cleaning all the connections in the ignition switch and sprayed contact cleaner. Now, even with a half-discharged battery, the choke continues to engaged in start position.

Thr choke moves freely. It closes all the way. this is how i start my boat fisrt i give it a little gas. Then I hit the choke then I hit the key.And nothing happens wene i hit the choke it is working i can see the butterflys closeing. Wene i first got the boat the choke worked great. After it hicup i shut the choke off and it would start fine. But now it does nothing.

Are you saying, the starter will not even engage to crank over the engine when you are holding down or with the choke engaged? But when you are not holding down or not engaging the choke the starter will engage and crank over the engine?

They used 2 different systems on the 90hp.
Ones an actual choke the other is an enrichment system????
Need to know year, model??
Pics help too.

Once the mods see this they'll kill it and you'll get no response.
