I'll try to make this question short and explain what may have been a very dumb move on my part. A friend wanted to go fishing last night, but after a weekend of fishing myself, I had used almost all of the gas in my tank - 20 gal. on board tank. He said, "No problem, I have two cans with six gallons each." I should have been suspect when he showed up with a 6 gal. container that had hydraulic fluid in it at one time. He assured me it was the same gas in the can that he used in his mower and small tractor. I poured in the correct amount of two stroke oil and he poured in the 6 gallons of gas. We fired up and headed across the small lake. When I idled down and was about to stop and put the trolling motor down, I noticed a huge amount of smoke coming from the exhaust and a very rough idle. I shut down, restarted, the same occured. The smoke had a real distinct diesel smell and Fred admitted that there may have been a small amount of diesel in the can when he filled it with gas. I siphoned the remaining gas out when I got the boat home.
Finally, My question - How much damage could have been done - Do I need to drain the carbs - Can I add fresh gas mix and let the remaining diesel mix burn out? I did have to run the motor back to the landing - about one mile.
Sorry this post got this long - Thanks for any input or advise.

A small amount of diesel fuel in your gas will not do anything except make your motor dirty. I would just change the gas in the tank and then run it for a while, and leave it at that.

Same as he said, lucky it wasn't a diesel engine you put gas in, that would be worse.
