I am about to attempt an impeller replacement on my Force 90hp. I have the Seloc Repair Manual, but since it covers such a wide range of Force outboards I'm not sure which procedure I need to follow. There are 5 different sets of instructions for water pump servicing over 15hp motors: 1) with Internal type connection, 2) with threaded shift coupling, 3) with shift shaft pin connection & alum. pump housing, 4) with shift shaft pin connection & plastic pump housing and 5) splined shift shaft connection.

Granted some of the steps in each case are the same, but some are different such as what gear to shift into before disassembly (some say forward, others say reverse...). Does anyone know which procedure I should follow? Or, will it become obvious as I go along? I have not started yet since I am still waiting for the parts to arrive, I am just trying to prepare beforehand.

Thanks

its simple really you dont even need the book, the book makes it look harder then it really is, its probably close to the same as my 88 85hp 6 bolts on the outside 3 in the snout, then the whole lower unit comes down. might need a gentle tapping with a rubber malet. 4 half inch bolts hold the impeller housing in place take them out 2 should be longer then the others pull the housing off and note the direction the impeller spins, put it back together and try to slide the lower united back into place. if you have problem alianing up might have to put the lower unit in gear and spin the propeller slightly.

Artic - Thanks, sounds like it shouldn't be too bad at all. I'll just give it a shot.

no problem, also you might need a second person there to help catch the lower unit when it comes down, also to help raise it back into position, other then that its a 1 man job, but the second man can sure help drink beers and lift...

When you replace the new impeller, liquid soap it up good, place it carefully on the shaft over the key, then just press the housing cover onto it as you spin the shaft in a clockwise direction.
