Just from a bad personal experience I'll say check the transom over well for rot. With the OMC you want to make sure it shifts smoothly indicating its adjusted properly. Of course smoothness is relative...basically you dont want any grinding when shifting.

Four winns makes a great boat but OMC is no longer in business and the drives have numerous problems that are unique-but still servicable if you can get the part. Eihter be prepared to learn all the maintance or find someone who works on old OMC. Around 1994 OMC merged with Volvo and those engines and newer are Volvo SX drives. You can not change old omc to other drives without alot of time and expense.
If you get a good deal-maybe, otherwise look for a newer model.

check the entire floor for soft spots. espescially around seats and in the back around the engine. if you have a soft spot then you have rot... and not just in that one spot.
