I have a 1990 Johnson 120 VRO that had been sitting up for awhile. I ran it last summer with only one or two instances of not having fire, otherwise idle and run perfect. Then this year I go to used the boat had no fire. I replaced powerpack, no fire. I took off and checked the stator, cleaned the stator magnets, still no fire. I tried unplugging the red umbelical plug, and got fire, plugged stop circuit and umbelical plug back together, still had fire. I went out on the water, everything was good, ran and idle perfect. I went out the next day and while idling around talking on the phone I noticed it was not pissing much of any. I decide to cruise around to run more water through the motor, it would not open up. I figure the motor was overheating so I park it and let it cool down for awhile, then I started it open and went for another cruise at wide open for 30 mins. I dropped the lower unit and replaced the water pump. I wanted to take it out and see how did with a new water pump, and the no fire has returned. Anyone know what could cause it to lose fire, regain fire, and lose fire over several times?
