I was running yesterday @ WOT when suddenly the motor just shut off. No warning sounds, no temp warning. I was able to restart the motor but it would only idle at 700 rpm. Normally it would idle at 1100 rpm. (Quick Start System) Model J140TXESE. My temp gauge then showed the motor was on the high end...no actual temp readings...just red/yel/grn. I tried to advance the throttle but the motor would shut off @ or around 1200 rpms. I managed to cripple back to port at a rough idle for a mile or so.

My question is this.. Is that what SLOW mode is suppose to do to protect the motor? The motor would only idle around 700 rpm...I will pull the lower unit and check water pump and replace thermostats and temp sensor. Is there other other things to look at? Does the Power Pack reset it self once the motor cools down? Do I need to do some sort of reset??

This motor is new to me...I just had the water pump replaced and a new power pack installed....it ran like a champ for one day....ugh

Sorry if this has been ansered in another post before. I tried to search but kept getting server errors. Had alot of weird errors since the upgrade...

~~Your grn/yel/red temp gage on the high end I’m guessing was showing a temp around 200 deg, which may have activated the S.L.O.W. function. Two of the four cylinders are shut down when the S.L.O.W. activates. At WOT that is abrupt. But when the engine cools below the trigger point the two cylinders should come alive again. It sounds like it might not have. Find out the way to disable the S.L.O.W. circuit. I’d look on the internet if no response here. If your engine returns to normal (with a cool engine), your pack went bad. If not, something else went bad.

I will check the compression. The VRO was in the process of testing. I should have added that I was running off a seperate tank with a 50:1 mix. Also had oil in the VRO oil tank. I marked the fill line and thought I would run for an hour and see if the oil level decreased. I did however replace the water pump..but did not touch the thermostats
