I have a '90 Johnson 48 SPL and noticed when I take it in the salt water it has on occassion been spitting a stream of foam from the spit tube rather then a stream of water? At low RPM's its fine, water is solid and at cool temp; but on plane at higher RPM's it starts doing that (spitting foam instead of water stream) and overheats my motor.......This is the first time Ive had it in salt water since I bought the boat. Prior to Ive ran it in the river and never had any issues. Any idea's or suggestions? The carbs have been rebuilt w/newer streering and hydraulic cables. Thanks.....

Your tell-tale is an indicator of the water pump condition. I would pull the lower unit and check the water pump condition. When was the last time the water pump was replaced?

To be honest I have no idea when it was last replaced. I have the maint. records from the person I bought the boat from. Not looking forward to having to drop the lower unit :(

Not that hard of a job. I would suggest that you get the factory manual and read through the water pump replacement section a couple of times, with the manual and the folks here you woun't have any problems.
