I reposted this to try to minimize the question. Can I by-pass the VRO oil pump and pre-mix my oil. One mechanic tells me the ECM and VRO communicate with on another to disperse the correct amount of oil to each cylinder. By bi-passing it the motor will not run properly. These VRO pumps changed in 1989 to prevent the option of pre-mixing?
Another guy tells it is fine to by-pass the oil injecter.
What do I do? Who to I listen to? I hope I can bi-pass to save a lot of money. Help.

Re: 1990 Johnson VRO 150

The VRO2 pumps, (V for variable) were installed on new motors through 1992, then replaced by OMS pumps. All of the VRO pumps send the mixed fuel and oil to the float bowls to fill them.

The fuel pump has nothing directly to do with the normal flow from the float bowls to the engine as that is accomplished by the vacuum created by the pistons.

You can only bypass the VRO pump by replacing it with something else. You can however, use the VRO pump as a premix pump at no cost and it should perform well.

There is a good explanation of the pumps here: http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/VRO.html

Read the section called Distinguishing VRO's to help identify your pump.

Thanks guys, thats what I was hopeing. I plugged off the oil line going to the VRO and will disconnect my wires to the alarm. By the way ezeke I tried the link and it was not the right one. It said nothing about VRO.

Look (at the link) again.

Be sure to check that your temperature switches and the fuel obstruction vacuum switch are still working the horn after you disconnect the VRO wiring.
