Looking to buy a 16 1990 Lund Renagde with 90 hp Johnson oil injected engine. The boat is in good shape with the usual equipment. Trailer is in good shape. What would be a fair price to give?

Used boat values are all over the place. A lot has to do with where you are located since local demand and familiarity with specific brands can vary from region to region.

A place to start looking from a "Blue Book" perspective would be the NADA (National Automotive Dealers ***'n) website (www.nada.com). They have online pricing guides for used boats and motors. They also cover the boat trailer, but it seems that no matter how old or what size trailer you plug in you'll get somewhere around $200 as a value.

Sometimes your insurance company or creduit union can give you a rough "bluebook" value too.

Condition means a lot too. It is not at all uncommon to find 15-20 year old boats that haven't been used much since most of us buy a boat and later find we don't have the free time we thought we would. My point here is that you can be somewhat picky about finding a nice example if you take your time.

The biggest problem I see with older boats are all the modifications that might have been done by previous owners. Some guys can add/remove accessories as well as the factory does, but it seems that more often than not a lot of us make out boats look like hack jobs. Things that catch my eye are bad wiring jobs and poor fit and finish on "custom" add-ons. Decide what you're cpmfortable living with and verify that any added electrical accessories are fused.

I recall that the Renegade/Predator boats were just about the top of the line fishing boat for Lund back in their day. The only boat that was geared more towards professionals was the 1700 Pro-V. If you compare the specs, they are pretty close in every way as I recall. The Predator was merely the tiller steer version of the Renegade.

Bets of luck,
Steve

This spring I bought a 1990 15ft Lund 150 package (40HP Evenrude VRO) on a decent trailer for $2500 (owner was asking $3000, but took $2500 without a thought.). Needed a replacement AM/FM CD. No Trolling motor. Seats and one trailer tire needed replacement. This was a single console bass style boat. Had a depth finder. Don't know how that compares with your Renegade.
