1990 merc 135

Hey guys looking at buying a 1990 Merc 135 for my 1950 bayliner capri. the guys says it has good compression,, 110 across all cylinders. are these numbers good??? what else should I ask him about this motor . Thanks in advance

Yea, those numbers are good. You want them all to be within 10psi of one another...<br /><br />Check the lower unit lube... Have him drain some and check it's appearance.. If it's milky you may have water intrusion... Also check the magnet on the drain plug, some small metal shavings are normal, but anything more may be an indication of gear damage.

Thanks for the reply,looks like i'll be the proud new owner of a Merc 135, lower unit looks good, the previous owner must have babied this motor.

There are several parts of that engine that you will most likely want to service (just for assurance purposes) after and if you purchase it... Let us know if you have any questions and several of us will be happy to help you...
