Just wanted to run these compression numbers by yall, one cylinder is a little lower than the others and wanted to make sure all is good. Compression was checked cold, all plugs removed, and butterflies closed. Motor is a 1990 merc 2.4l with a little over 5 hrs since rebuild.
#1 125
#2 126
#3 124
#4 125
#5 119
#6 123
number 5 had me a little worried, just wanted some piece of mind. Thanks

Manual on my 90 said anything below 120 expect problems. Both loopers, both 2 strokers. Big guns on here go more on commonality than absolute value since numerous variables in the measurement besides the actual compression of the engine. Looks like you passed.

those are really good "base" numbers for new 2.4 slot relief motor rebuild.. hot/cold, open/closed as long ya don't change tha process.. think if something was amiss it would be showin' by now....

you do tha rebuild or a shop?.

Ok good, thats what i wanted to hear, just wanted to record my base numbers so i have something to go by later down the road. I did not do the rebuild, got it from wilson outboards in jasper, ga. My last motor i rebuilt myself on a budget, replaced 2 pistons and re-ringed the rest, but only honed the cylinders instead of sending the block to a machine shop. Needless to say after puting the thing back together and running it for a while i was never able to get it to run right. After checking it, 5 of the cylinders were at 125lbs and one was at 60lbs, so just i sold it and bought this one. Wont make that mistake again when this ones due for a rebuild.
thanks guys
