I have a new2me 1990 Mercury 8hp 2-stroke tiller (c256320)that is missing a plug in the bottom cowl.
I haven't had much luck finding the part. I can see it in diagrams, but it's not listed as a part. I was wondering what it did & what I should do about the hole in the cowl.
The plug in question is a little more than an inch square, and is located on the bottom cowl, fore, on the starboard side...right under the carb...and just fore of the electrical plug.
There is some epoxy inside the cowl where said missing part was probably once glued in.
There is a photo of the plug with a red switch incorporated into it (?) located on this page about 3/4 of the way down:

(I have a killswitch on the handle and it appears to be wired for another (2 green wires individually dead-ended into separate wirenuts under cowl) so, maybe I just need to block the hole, but at first I though maybe I'm missing an air intake screen...leaving me half curious...Is there no air filter or intake on these cowls & carbs?...It seems the drain hole is the only opening.
I can take photos if need be.
Thanks in advance.
